It's Friday! ♥
April 8, 2010

And as a clever wee band named The Cure once so appropriately sang, ‘’It’s Friday, I’m in love!’’

Here’s what’s tickling my fancy this week..

x The Airport - Oh my god. Can I live there, please?! Seriously! It is AMAZING! It’s (possibly very sadly) one of my favourite places in the world. There’s instant gratification food everywhere (no waiting! No cooking! MARVELLOUS!), and then there’s the shopping. Oh, the shopping! Honestly, I lose my mind. Within minutes of being in the realms of the duty free/tax free shopping area of Sydney ‘s Kingsford Smith Airport, I’d already acquired a bunch of MAC cosmetics, two Gwen Stefani Harajuku Lovers fragrances (they were only $24 each, and that was for the HUGE size, not the teeny tiny little one, how could I refuse?!) and a 1 litre bottle of Absolut Vanilla vodka ($29!) – heaven! It’s moments like those where you give some serious consideration to booking more international flights just to access those kinds of discounts..

x Auckland, New Zealand – Between The Sky Tower (pictured above!),  the second-hand clothing stores that line K’Road (even if they WERE a bit on the pricey side!), the interesting boutiques and cafes that adorn Ponsonby, and the fact that really, it just provided itself as the perfect backdrop to spend quality time with my family laughing, drinking, jumping and dancing (oh, and sleepwalking, too, but that's a whole other issue that I'll probably uh, never re-mention!), Auckland, you were a wonderful and quirky host. Thanks for having me!

x Fejoa Flavoured Wine – If I was to compile a list of a must-do activities in New Zealand for the traveller from abroad, sampling a fejoa would DEFINITELY feature highly! A weird little sweet, green fruit, they’re only available in New Zealand and unlike anything else I’ve ever tried before; they’re just completely unique. But! Just when I thought that I couldn’t possibly love them any more, I was recently introduced to them in wine form and oh my goodness, it was DELICIOUS. Remember: if you’re ever in New Zealand = fejoas! And if you ever manage to find fejoa flavoured wine in your local bottle shop, consider buying yourself a lottery ticket because hello, it must be your lucky day! (It’s exquisite!)

x Meeting Natasha Of ScribblesNZ Meeting someone with whom you’ve only ever communicated online can be an incredibly daunting experience; firstly, there’s the small issue of deciding what on earth you’re going to wear, and secondly, there’s the bigger issue of ‘’oh, crap – what happens if they meet me and decide that actually, I’m probably about as eloquent in person as a pigeon?!’’ It can be so very, very nerve-wracking! Luckily, I met the almost criminally lovely Natasha, who was a lot of fun to have a coffee/can of V with and was kind enough to pretend that even if I WAS about as eloquent in person as a pigeon, she hadn’t noticed. Thanks for your company, Natasha; it was so great to meet you!

x Other Little Things – Concocting ridiculous trampoline ''exercise classes''  with my sister and cousin (''andddddddd one ha-yah-yah, two ha-yah-yah!'' Hopefully somebody that also grew up on a television diet of The Simpsons might have some sort of an idea of what I'm talking about!); unpacking my suitcase in New Zealand and discovering that my boyfriend had secretly packed a giant chocolate Easter rabbit in there for while I was away (a potential customs nightmare after informing them that no, I surely wasn’t carrying food in my luggage, but still: AWWW!); curling up on the couch with a blanket; Sandringham’s Yes Noodles; watching Sleeping Beauty on the plane; feeling better; remembering how excellent my mother’s home cooked meals are; Rocky Road ice-creams (wasn’t I talking about eating more healthily a couple of weeks ago?! D’oh!); Chi herbal mineral water; Burger Fuel burgers; the e-ticket process (seriously, it AMAZES me. You print off a piece of paper, present it with your passport at the airport and BOOM! You're on a plane. So simple! So genius!); scoring two dresses for $50 at Farmers; KC & The Sunshine Band; running around and playing in parks like a lunatic; 500 Days Of Summer; and finally, arriving h-o-m-e!

Because Auckland, while I adore you (and oh, I DO!), sometimes, there's just nothing better than spying the glittering lights of Sydney's CBD from above and feeling as if you're returning to exactly where you belong..

What are you loving at the moment? Half-price Easter eggs? Not sleepwalking?! (Ack, I am so going to have to share that humiliating story on here one time!) Share!

xoxo
