I Thought It Was Love At The Time, But.. ♥ (Tales Of Wardrobe Throw-Outs!)
October 21, 2009

As previously mentioned, I recently completely re-organised my closet and boy oh boy, it felt good! I am a huge fan of organisation (what's that, Virgo?!) and truly believe that it is far more beneficial to have 10 pieces which make you feel like a super stylish, fearless minx, rather than 100 which leave you feeling dull and uninspired! My last wardrobe clean-out was completed after writing this article, but much to my dismay, I still had a few less-than-exquisite relics hanging around - so I thought I would share with you some of the pieces that made the most recent almighty 'throw-out' pile! Here's to making smarter shopping decisions - and always, always, ALWAYS trying items on!

1. First up.. the tan skirt! Yikes. No offense, tan skirt, I'm sure you have a GREAT personality, but honestly? I can't believe I was ever attracted to you! Oh, that's right - you were cheap! Yes, I was second-hand store shopping at the time and in the mood for a bargain, and the frugal part of my brain found its $3 price tag simply too appealing to resist! I wish I had tried it on, though. What looked like a cute little summer skirt on the hanger was extremely unflattering on - it sat ridiculously high on the waist, and didn't give my thighs any love. I held on to it for a while, hoping that I could make it work, but it never made its way out of my wardrobe. When I finally heaved it into a bag for charity, I couldn't believe that I hadn't done it sooner!

2. Next in the throw-out pile? A blue, billowy summer dress I purchased years ago at a sale. It definitely wasn't love at first sight, but as soon as I saw its price tag ($10), there was chemistry! I imagined that it would be super comfortable, and that if I tried hard enough, I could somehow make it stylish. Well, while it definitely lived up to my comfort expectations, I never could work it in as part of an excellent ensemble - it was too billowy! It was always (at least!) one dress size too big, and never really thrilled me - its departure was long overdue!

3. Purchased quickly and impulsively on a lunch break (read: no time to try on!), I had HIGH hopes for this black skirt! I imagined wearing it with a long-sleeved striped top and ankle boots, and feeling deliciously Sienna-Miller esque. How very disappointing it was to find it was the exact opposite of my vision - too short, too small, and massively, massively tulip shaped! I actually remember calling my sister at the time and shrieking ''It's TULIP shaped.. TULIP shaped!'' I think my hysteria may have also been related to the fact that I had decided to remove all the tags (so that there was no chance of returning it!) before trying it on in the comfort of my home.

4. And finally? Ah, yes. Green cardigan. We tried so hard to make the relationship work! I suppose it wasn't your fault, though - after all, it was me that plucked you out from the crowd, so convinced that you would play nicely with my assortment of clothes! Will be perfect with dresses, I concluded at the time. Divine with jeans. Superb with a cute little top! Wrong, wrong, wrong. Alas, your hue was much too powerful for my complexion, and no matter which outfit you were paired with, you always did end up discarded on the bedroom floor. It was time to call it a day. I think it's for the best.

xoxo
