Getting Extra Use From Your Wardrobe (Or, How To Turn Old Clothing Into Gorgeous New Items!) ♥
September 22, 2009

Because these days, you can re-use just about ANYTHING!

The Situation: A slew of a typical closet's seemingly unusable, expired items.
The Solution: A motley crue of craft ideas and fashion remedies to resuscitate them back into beautiful new ensembles/accessories!

The Usual Suspects:

x Ripped Stockings: Ah, so your stockings appear as though they've embarked on a date with Edward Scissorhands.. no problem! To create a criminally cute new top, simply cut out the crotch of your stockings (to allow room for your noggin!), and some length off the feet (for your arms).. voila! One quirky, edgy new piece, perfect to be layered over one of your favourite camisoles/singlets/dresses, and bound to garner all SORTS of ''gosh! Where did you get that top from?!'' comments..

x One-Earring Syndrome: You bought them as a pair, but whether one of them has suffered their fate in the presence of a sink drain (I lost one of my favourite earrings ever in a drain in a Paris hotel room - boo!) , or simply slipped away elusively, never to be discovered again, don't despair! There is a solution! (And it DOESN'T involve wearing one at a time.) Use your mismatched studs, chandelier-style drop earrings and hoops in lieu of push-pins on collages, inspiration boards or for posters on your walls, or as adorable embellishments for chunky shoes or handbags!

x Old Jumpers/Blouses/Cardigans: Perhaps it doesn't fit. Perhaps it bunches up somewhat uncomfortably with a single stride. Whatever the dilemma, it's a total GEM, and you simply can't bear to part with it - so why not fashion it into a beautiful new cushion?

x Jeans: Snip lifeless pairs of denim into cut-off shorts or mini-skirts for summer, or shred them, bleach them or dye them to devise a fabulously on-trend new pair for winter!

x Additional Suggestions: Thread previously discarded scarves through the loops of your pants/skirts to create a stunning belt, or alternatively, use them for headscarves!; turn old clothing into a reversible purse, wine or gift bags, rags for cleaning or pillow, cushion or soft toy stuffing; pin brooches onto headbands; wear dresses as skirts with a glorious t-shirt/jacket thrown over the top; hoist your bangles further up your sleeve for bicep candy; trade finger rings for your toes, and wrist bracelets for your ankles; layer all of your necklaces together; and use ribbons from gifted jewellery boxes, beauty packages (think: Chanel fragrance giftsets!) or shopping bags as hair ties!
