Psst! Do you remember January's resolutions ideas? You know, the ones where we planned to make 2010 our very best year YET? No? (That's okay, I totally almost forgot too.) Right! Let's rewind!
If you were resolution-less, or searching for a goal that didn't involve running 16545560.77564666 laps per day/giving up alcohol/sugar/wheat/carbohydrates/fun, a suggestion was to create a gorgeous living space that was reflective of exactly what you needed. For example, if you craved bliss and relaxation, it was recommended that you work towards building your bedroom/an area of your home into the most welcoming, sumptuous domain possible, or alternatively, if you demanded more creativity, a space that encouraged you to act as an unstoppable productivity machine!
So! How did you go? Have you began working towards developing an amazing area? If you haven't (naughty! Oh, who am I kidding. I have been a procrastinator since BIRTH!), let's get started! If you have, HOORAY! That's fantastic! Can I see pictures?! (It appears that I have also been nosy since birth.)
Either way, here's a stack of suggestions to make your living space as comfortable, relaxing and welcoming as possible! :
x Whether you're living in an apartment/cottage/hotel room/townhouse/treehouse/a room in your parent's house, it doesn't matter: you owe it to yourself to set up living quarters that make you feel inspired, excited and happy each day! Firstly, take a look around around the room of your home (or each room!) in question. Are you satisfied with where everything is located? Can you walk around each room/your room freely? Can anything be arranged to work better? Experiment!
x Invest in a gorgeous set of bed linen. You work hard, you play hard, and when the party’s all over at the end of the day, you deserve something exquisite to collapse into!
x Consider this: is there one item which would make your room function approximately 9,8999 times better, such as a writing desk, a luxurious rug, a three-seat sofa in an outlandish shade or a visualisation/inspiration board? What would make your space more appealing and desirable?
x Visit your local candle/crystal/spiritual healing store and pick up some sage incense to burn. In addition to filling your special haven with a sweet aroma, it’s believed to be a purifying scent, absorbing negativity and misfortune. (My lovely friend Donna swears by this stuff, and hers is the most inviting, encouraging and warm home that I've ever set foot into!)
x And finally, even if you truly DESPISE where you’re living (the roof leaks, the kitchen reeks..), make an effort to make it as beautiful as possible, or to at least equip a particularly unpleasant room with an item so blindingly fabulous that you begin to forget that you aren’t entirely smitten with it at all! Case in point? My bathroom. Oh, my bathroom! It’s old, falling apart and hideous to the point where it needs to be completely knocked down and reconstructed again, but because this isn’t likely to be happening until the end of the year, I decided to take action and plant one of my favourite, silly objects in there: a giant plastic glittery fuschia skull with sparkling red diamante eyes. It looks ridiculous and wildly out of place (I think it’s something that my boyfriend picked up from a toy shop approximately eight years ago!), but it makes me smile and feel 80% less likely to burst into tears/pull my hair out upon entering. Mission accomplished!
