It's the websites that are so friendly with your computer that heck, they're practically on a first name basis. (''Why hey there, Ebay!'' ''Oh HI, Macbook!'') The websites that you find yourself constantly sneaking a glance at. (Work? What work?!) The content that's so ludicrously addictive, whether because of its striking photographs of Sweden or deliciously witty pieces on suitcases (or um, neither!), that you're often surreptitiously typing in the address of the website in your internet address bar whenever you're online, REGARDLESS of whether your Twitter/Facebook/Google Reader account has alerted you to the fact that there's a new piece available. And why? Because they're just so gosh darn marvellous! They're compelling, and day after day, that's precisely what has us clicking over to visit them again and again.

So, what exactly makes compelling, so-good-that-you-memorise-their-website-address-and-visit-it-even-when-they-haven't-posted-something-new content? Let's examine!

An Interesting Story

With her delightful arsenal of self-help articles and sublime neon-coloured hair, blogger Gala Darling was already ripe for the compelling content picking, but her enchanting fairytale of quitting the corporate world at age 23 has ensured that she's succeeded in making it happen! Ditching the office cubicle forever in favour of carving her own path and earning her own income through her website of the same name, Gala has a story that's captivating, has been spread through the mouths of thousands of others and has garnered interest worldwide: ''she earns money from blogging!'' People tell. ''I want to earn money from blogging!'' Others think. ''How does she do it?!'' Hello, addictive reading! People flock to her website searching for the answers and enjoy her flamboyant, fabulous style and relentlessly positive approach while they're there; and thus, a compelling content star is born!

Expertise

Perhaps they're a crafting expert who can show you how to make a pillowcase from a DVD player or a style maven who's mastered 17,5566 ways to tie a scarf - either way, they're so knowledgeable about a particular area or subject that you just have to frequent their page to see what they're devising next! Jane Aldridge of Sea Of Shoes' love of fashion and flair for concocting brilliant outfits has commanded her serious attention as a style expert, while Nubby Twiglet's passion for art and experience has earned her respect as an extremely talented graphic design authority. Addictive? Indeed. Intriguing? You bet!

A Unique Writing Style

Politics, schmolitics, garbage cans, schmarbage cans: there are some writers who can take ANY topic and run with it, simply because of their unique writing style and ability to entertain, inform or interest!

Consistent, Frequent Updates

Now, while a website that's consistently and frequently updated a few times a day may not appeal to everyone, for some it's the pinnacle of viewing excellence: they like to know that they can whack the address of a particular website onto their computer and see that the page has had two new pieces added to it since their last visit! For example? Perez Hilton's infamous celebrity gossip website. Sure, you may wish that he'd give Kristen Stewart a break sometimes and may not agree with his snarky commentary 99.9% of the time, but you do know that regardless of what time you land upon his page, within an hour or so there'll be something new to read, making it all the more compelling to repeatedly return!
