Have You Ever Wondered What It's Like To Complete A... Résumé Bomb?! ♥

It's a scenario as enjoyable as imagining a world without chocolate (ugh, could you picture it?! ARGH!), but in all earnestness, take a moment to ponder this:

What would you do if you were unemployed? Despite constantly, actively searching for work? For a lengthy amount of time?

My dear friend Chris has been in this exact position for six (yes... six) months, and crikey, it's NOT from a lack of trying. Résumé coaches? He's hired them! Tirelessly applying for numerous roles in multiple industries? Oh believe me, he has been, and is! (A text message from Chris earlier in the year: ''so, I literally applied for 50 jobs yesterday. I'm going to smash this!'')

It's been a frustrating time (and can you blame him?! Chris is intelligent, educated and one of the bubbliest, funniest people I know. Jeez, if I could afford to hire him, I would!), but on Tuesday, he cooked up a new game plan:

OPERATION RÉSUMÉ BOMB!

Samantha ''Richard Is A Cheat'' Fliers Flyers Sex And The City Anchors Away episode

The idea? That we take to the streets of Sydney and ''bomb'' businesses with our résumés, Samantha Jones-post-break-up-with-Richard style! (Do you remember this glorious scene in Sex & The City?! HA!)

Chris preparing for 'Operation Résumé Bomb'. Staple, staple! (The running joke of the day? ''Angry creditors frothing at the mouth? Oh, well. HAVE A RÉSUMÉ! Removalists evicting furniture? Meh. HAVE A RÉSUMÉ! Building about to be pulled down? HAVE A RÉSUMÉFined for littering paper around the CBD? HAVE. A. RÉSUMÉ!'')

We STORMED the retail and hospitality sectors, and guess what?! By the end of the afternoon, Chris had landed not one, but two interviews (high-five!), and I nabbed a bartending trial at The KB Hotel. (No, really! I completed it last night, pouring beers and serving the locals and EVERYTHING!)

The verdict? Never give up!

In the words of the wonderful Chris, ''don't ''try''; succeed. ''TRYING'' indicates that there's a chance of failure, but not if you decide that failure is NON-NEGOTIABLE.''

Have YOU ever completed a résumé bomb? Would you ever complete a résumé bomb? (And isn't Chris insanely brave/brilliant for devising the idea in the first place?! Corporate head honchos, just LOOK at that initiative!)

xoxo

What a fantastic idea! I was unemployed for five months last year, despite working my backside off to apply for jobs and be as charming as hell. It was a huge hit to my self esteem. I literally applied for hundreds of jobs and got nowhere. I did find a job eventually though. This is an awesome idea, and it sounds like it worked a treat.

Best wishes to Chris! With such an amazing attitude, I'm sure he'll find something suitably awesome.

Wow Corrine this is super-awesome! Congratulations! You guys are extremely creative, it's fantastic when you're struggling with something and still not giving up but bombing!

This was great, and I feel for Chris.

I had a bout of unemployment last year which lasted 4 months, despite having two degrees, and applying for the most basic of jobs. It was awful.

What a cutie! This is an awesome idea, and I'm so glad that Chris got some interviews from it. My boyfriend was out of work for six months last year, and it certainly wasn't a fun time in our lives. Good luck Chris!

Rachel - He's a cutie, isn't he?! :D Thank-you kindly for your super sweet comments!

And far OUT. A year?! Yikes :( Massive kudos to him for persevering for so long, and best of luck with his future résumé endeavours! :)

First - Chris, *mrow* Hot.

Second - This was brilliant. My boyfriend could not find employment when he moved to CA for over a year. He alternated between applying online and getting dressed up (or 'suited up') and going on foot, resume in hand, from business to business. He has a job now (though he'd like to change - might be time to pull an operation resume bomb!)

good luck Chris!

This is amazing. Well done guys x

This is brilliant! The unemployment rate is ridiculous in the US (my fiance was w/out a job for a YEAR). Most people just sit in front of their computer and apply using the job finding websites though. I think the good old-fashioned in person, asking for an application, shaking someone's hand approach means a lot. Congrats and good luck!
