Much like when I was convinced that No Doubt's Gwen Stefani was purring ''take this big woman off my eyes'' in the opening chorus of Just A Girl (for the record, she absolutely wasn't, and I was eleven years old at the time, I SWEAR!), I've been wrong, wrong, wrong-ity wrong in assuming that clashing colours are a sartorial experiment to be approached with extreme trepidation!
In fact, right now? I'm utterly obsessed with them.
From obscenely bright shades of magenta paired with lovely lilacs (swoon!) to electric blue hues teamed with butterscotch yellows (d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s!), who knew that such a seemingly mismatching bunch could work together so... beautifully?!

Take, for example, these spectacularly striking ensembles donned by Leona Lewis. Sublime!

And then there's little miss Miranda Kerr, proving that lavender and crimson are one power couple colour combination that definitely shouldn't be avoided! (Sure, Miranda Kerr could probably sashay her way down the runway ensconced in garbage bags and prove a similar point, but I digress!)

Gelato undertones and fruit bowl-esque tints. What's not to love?!

A subtle fusion of shades? Cle-ver, Mischa Barton!

Oh, Rihanna. There's just too much magnificence here (a tangerine blazer with chic stripes! A polka-dot jumpsuit! A grey marle bandeau and a HAIR BOW!) to even begin dissecting your outfits!

Turquoise, pastel pink and black?! Powder blue, grey and peachy hued sequins?! So unexpected; so DELIGHTFUL!

Fuschia and raspberry, where have you BEEN all my life?!
♥
Have you ever mixed such a fabulously clashing array of hues together? Would you ever mix such a fabulously clashing array of hues together? Which trends are YOU currently completely enamoured with?

P.S. Psst! If you've noticed that Frock & Roll has been as lively as, say, a Britney Spears Fan Club at a KISS concert this week, forgive me! In what's surely going to earn me first place at the 2011 Most Original Explanations Awards, I've been phenomenally, astoundingly, stupidly busy - but regular posting has resumed! (Party time! Excellent!)
LOVE these colour combos!! I myself have been rockin the orange with pink or purple..or even blue! It's one of the best trends for 2011, and I'm joining in, like you!

Love clashing colors. The last combo is particularly fab.

I adore clashing colours, and used to wear them constantly (I looked rather like a early morning children's tv presenter). I love how vivid and unapologetic the above combinations are!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the colours on Leona's first outfit - stunning!

I love my clashing coloured sweater. It has a lot of colours and it's super bright.
I love mixing purple and yellow... that combination makes me really happy.

I've ALWAYS admired celebs who can carry off mixed prints and clashing colours. I have just always been too chicken to do it myself!! I've always thought, "If I was famous then I would totally do it..."
Which isn't really the right attitude...
I could keep it simple though. I got a dress last year (hardly worn) that mixes navy blue with black...that's a start, right?

oooh i love it. i'm an even bigger sucker for the crunk colour clash though, like m.i.a. and nicki minaj. such a lovely though girly style.

Maybe it's a regional thing (Washington, DC and the surrounding metropolitan areas) but the majority of those combos don't read as clashing to me, just bright. My friends and I dress like that daily!
But anyway, you may want to check out Boxing Kitten, which is super bright with tons of patterns.
I must say though, Leona Lewis has an eye for color, but the proportions of her outfits are odd to me.

Love pretty much everything Leona Lewis wears, she is stunning. I'm going to try being more adventurous with colour clashing this season, at least it should give me more outfit combinations!

Kathryn - Wow, black and BROWN?! That's a toughie! I don't think I've *ever* seen such a combination donned! (Outside of a licorice bullet, of course! ;) )
Caitlin - YES! An apple green blazer would be a-m-a-z-i-n-g!
Euforilla - You're 110% welcome! :) Winter's approaching here, but oddly enough, that just excites me about wearing brighter colours even MORE!
Miss Peregrin - Isn't it a stunner?! It's quite possible the most brilliant piece of clothing that I've ever laid my eyes on, I neeeed it!
Ani - What? REALLY?! Fools! People with ginger hair look absolutely STUNNING in red!

People keep telling me that I shouldn't wear red with my ginger hair as it seems to be clashing in their eyes - you know what? I think right now, red is the one colour I love wearing most because it makes my hair pop even more!

I am loving all the bright, clashing colours that are making the rounds at the moment. They're just so fun, and bright! I really, really want that polka-dotted jumpsuit. It is amazing.

Some of the pairings are a bit too bold for me, but fun colours are... well, fun!
I'm looking for more and more green in my wardrobe, I don't know if it's spring, but I feel like it's too gloomy, so thank you for these inspirations :)

Colour blocking is a huge trend at the moment. I'm keen on getting my hands on a bright coloured blazer- they're hot and so easy to wear. I want an apple green one to wear with denim jeans. Yum yum.

I do love me some clashing colours - magenta and red being my fave (magenta net tights over red solids for example).
One thing I absolutely hate though, and I see it so often here is mixing brown and black. That's not fun clashing, it's licquorice bullets!
