Style Challenge: 1 Hairdressing Salon + You + Free Reign = ?! ♥

Ding, ding!

Did you hear that?! That's the sound of the second Style Challenge entering the sartorial ring, ding, ding, DING!

And joining it today is the following question: if you walked into a hairdressing salon and gave the hairdresser complete free reign over your mop, waiving away ANY sort of control, how would you emerge? With purple streaks? A crew cut? The very best haircut of your LIFE? What?

Against all ''um, Corrine?! I think this is kind of nuts'' odds, I decided to find out!

Style Challenge

And gosh, would you look at that. I lost half my hair along the way! And collected a FRINGE!

Style Challenge

There's not a mullet in sight!

To be honest though, I think I was sliiightly disappointed. Not so much about the failed acquisition of a mullet (no!), but probably because I'd secretly hoped that the hairdresser would drastically announce that I would look resplendent with a green mohawk and yellow highlights and would immediately scold me for not implementing them sooner! But I trust her judgement. After all, the purpose of this exercise wasn't to create shock value/scare small animals, but rather, to explore the benefits of disposing routines and embracing change: because really, what are we learning when we continously order our usual cut, colour and blow-dry? How do we know that we're not missing out on sampling an amazing pool of nearby colours or styles which would phenomenally, and brilliantly, alter our look?

Sure, 'ol Fringey wasn't the most tremendous rumble on the dramatic scales (I think my hairdresser, although phenomenally sweet, was understandbly nervous: ''so, you don't have ANY preferences?!'' She asked. ''Well, I don't think that I could pull 'bald' off,'' I replied. ''But you know, if you think that it could be a winning option...''), but I like it, and NOT just because it makes me feel mildly mushroom-like! I somehow feel more free. Confident. And as though this is a process that I want to pursue more often!

What would happen if you abandoned your hair as you knew it to put it into the hands of another with a fresh, new and exciting perspective? Would you?

How could you be transformed?

xoxo

You are one brave girl. And it's paid off, it looks great!

Keep the style challenges coming!

Wow! You look good indeed!

But I would never have the guts to do something like that, sometimes I also have nightmare of waking up with short hair! (my hair are 1mt long... it took me year to grow them!)

Well done girl!

I've always wanted to do that! Or to go out of town and come back with a new cut! I'm totally into changing haircuts, it's fun!

Ah, you are brave, Corrine! I would never, ever, ever be able to put my hair in the hands of a complete stranger - it would frighten me far too much!! :P

Love it!! <3

Totally digging the fringe :)

Loving the hair! Sounds like you freaked your hairdresser out!

I often just let my hairdresser do whatever she likes as I have had the same girl do my hair for 8 years and she knows what I like. Plus I trust her (she has fabulous hair. ALWAYS). I will go in with a general idea of what I want and she will figure out the rest. I have never walked out unhappy.

Hmmm, your fringe is making me miss my old fringe...

Kate - Aww, shucks. Thanks Kate! And now THAT is a haircut! Sheesh, that is fantastic.

Kathryn - That's a very true point - to be honest, I didn't know my hairdresser, but thankfully she was really, really nice (no, really - while waiting for the dye to set in she went to grab some McDonald's for lunch and offered to buy me some, how kind is that?!) - the experiment could go completely awry if you had somebody that was evil and decided that your hair should be 2,6677 different lengths!

Kez - Thank-you very much, Kez! :) And I hope you find another excellent one soon too!

Scribbles - Woohoo, thanks miss!

Alex - No, I haven't! I have pretty much always had the same haircut (long + side fringe) since I was 16! And COLOURS! You could play around with COLOURS!

Ohh, the fringe looks fabulous!

How exciting! Have you ever had a fringe before?

The only downside to them is that they're a bitch to try and pin back haha.

If I gave a hairdresser free reign over my hair, assuming that they wouldn't shave it or mohawk it.. they'd probably give me something I've already had.. I've had front fringes, side fringes, shoulder length hair, short hair and now I'm at super long hair... I don't know what else there is! :o

Fringe totally rocks - keep it!

Hey, I think you look great! And good for you being brave :)

I don't think enough people are brave.

I miss my old hairdresser and right now I'm in no man's land hair styling wise but my old hairdresser was SO awesome. EVERY SINGLE TIME I went in I would give her free reign and I ALWAYS loved it. I hope I can get a trusting relationship with another hair dresser who I can allow to try anything.

It's so freeing and the response you get from friends and family is so awesome!

I'm fine with giving my regular hairdresser free reign but don't know if I could with someone I didn't know.

You are so lucky you can have a fringe. I'd love to get one but I have weird cowlicks!

Julie - I hear you: curls can be difficult to work with because there's such an art to perfecting and styling them! Yours always look lovely, though - I am envious of your magical curly abilities!

Haha and thank-you! I actually just looked at that first picture again and have decided that it is probably the worst photo I have ever seen of myself and wondered why the heck I included it; but oh well! ;p

OMG! The fringe!! you look so cute with the hat and the fringe n_n.

I got my hair cut off last year, but since I have VERY curly hair I don't like to experiment a lot.

Whenever I ask the hair dresser to what she wants, she just cuts off the ends and gives a little different shape. I think that it's because of the curls, people are just scared of them.

Emily - That is AWESOME! You are now my official idol; seriously, that is incredible. You are massively brave!

And thank-you! My opinion flits from ''me likey!'' to ''sweet merciful crap, what have I DONE?!'' but, you know. It's just hair, and as you said, it always grows back! :)

Haha, this is my area of expertise!!

Non-mainstream haircuts I've had:

1. shaved head

2. mohawk--dyed bright blue & purple.

3. scene mullet

4. spiky in back, bangs in front (can't explain)

5. short haired faux hawk

i love all crazy hairstyles! next up: dreads! (real ones, not extensions)

I think your hair looks great. I love bangs (fringe)!! I totally support crazy spur of the moment haircuts & styles. so liberating! and it always grows back ; )
