Sexy Winter Dressing: How The Heck Do You Do It?! ♥

in I Want... Style!, I Want... Fun!

No, REALLY. That's not a rhetorical question, like ''how good are nachos?!'' or ''is bowling fun, or is bowling FUN?!'', that's a serious ''help me Rhonda, I'm wearing a dressing gown and tracksuit pants every single night, WHAT DO I DO?'' kind of question, because I am!

Now, it's not that I haven't tried other options. I have. Maxi-dresses with oversized cardigans? Yes! We've hung out and it was all fine and dandy but my legs began to freeze and we called it a night. Cute pyjamas with animal characters? Indeed! Turtles, monkeys, not-animals-but-still-definitely-cute cupcakes; there's drawers full of them! But let's face it: navy pyjamas with purple stars and turtles racing cars with the word 'Speedy' are STILL pyjamas, and it's unlikely that being ensconsced in flannelette will ever, ever be considered sexy.

So what are the alternatives? I mean, sure, it's easy to remain all foxy and sizzly outside of the house, what with all the bountiful, colourful trench coats, leather jackets, beanies, knits, wool dresses and scarves on offer - but what about for the times when you simply want to shuffle around the house and watch an episode of CSI? I'm tired of catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror and mistaking myself for a ninety year-old woman/experiencing the overwhelming urge to scream ''how did this happen?!''

What's that? I don't really skulk around the house like that?

SexyWinterDressing

I do! And have even compiled visual evidence of this fashion tragedy, as depicted above, shamefully messy hair and all! (My boyfriend may or may not have decided that it was a grand idea to jump in the photo last minute.)

Winter! Sexiness! How do you maintain it when its zero degrees outside and all you want to do is clutch a hot chocolate and wear 1,5676887845 layers? (Because as you can see from the above photograph, I clearly don't!)

xoxo

you don't need to look sexy at home! who's going to see you?? i think you look adorable in that photo and i'm sure the boyfriend will still love you!

usually (although it's summer here so i'll try to put myself in winter mindset for a moment!) i just wear my jeans and a baggy sweatshirt in the house, cause it's nice and comfy and warm. i also like to wear tights and oversized sweaters from thrift store men's sections! haha (one of my fav sweaters was actually found there). if you get REALLY cold, two pairs of tights on at the same time is not as uncomfortable as you might think. i can't say any of this is sexy, but maybe it'll help!

Ohh, that is tricky! I usually go the millions of layers route, simply because I can't stand being cold, but you could try some thigh high knit tights, some cute lingerie and a pretty robe. The other option is to just spend all your at home time in bed.

a comfy but fitted hoodie worn with SHORT shorts or skirt, with warm tights/leggings underneath. I think the best we can aim for is 'cute'. sexy could be tricky. although you could always go to the russians for inspiration - a bit of fur worn near the face can go a long way!

you're asking the wrong girl, my boyfriend thinks wearing his trackpants tucked into his socks is sexy!

It's possible to look sexy in winter? This is news to me ;)

Good winter tights are comfy enough to wear inside the house without sacrificing your loungey groove. These ones:

are my favorite, like cuddly sweaters for your legs. And points for a well-mannered, non-pinchy waistband.

It's winter, you aren't supposed to look sexy at home. Unless you turn the heater up full bore and have a huge power bill!

Embrace the winter dagginess. I'm so getting a snuggie. At the moment, it's big pink dressing gown and hoodie boots. You can take off ugly clothes but you can't take off goosebumps!

For outside, I'm loving shapewear at the moment. Not for the shaping but because it keeps you nice and warm without a zillion bulky layers.

I'm not particularly good at this myself! You want to relax but when you have two jumpers on and slippers its hard to feel glamourous.

About the best I do is get the fireplace charged up early enough not to need extra socks too :)

Ms. Critique - Haha! No, it's a tragic, enormous, fluffy white bathrobe; it was like a gift with purchase upon buying two Clinique products two years ago or something! :p (I don't know if that's better or worse than a Snuggie!)

Corrine, are you wearing a snuggie?

Raquel - Those are fabulous tips, and I can't wait for your post! But while I think I've mastered scarf wearing and such, what baffles me is how to remain sexy while being INSIDE the house! How, how, HOW do you do that?!

Julie - Tell me about it, there have been SO many times where I've been tempted to even leave the house in my ugg boots! Naughty!

I don't get like a bitter cold winter (though it gets too cold for my standards and then hot with the winter sund and so on). I'm usually seen in skinny jeans tucked into boots with long sleeved tops layered a hoodie and a scarf; leggings with log-ish skirts, boots and a coat or hoodie.

I think that the boots+ leggings/jeans is my winter uniform.

I've been this close to going to schol in my pijamas just so that I don't have to change in the morning.

Well Corrine, I'm glad you asked because I'm writing a post next week on this very subject! Stay tuned!

A few brief tips of mine:

- Invest in a few different coats.

- Don't fear skirts, just buy lots of opaque tights (which you can layer for warmth).

- FABULOUS SCARVES. ALWAYS.

- Interesting jackets over a boring outfit (jeans and a top) will go a long way.

- Always carry bobby pins for when the weather destroys your hair.
