How To Survive Artist's Block ♥

Whether you're a budding fashion designer or a writer, an artist or a pastry chef, it's important to regularly feel inspired, fulfilled, and to have your creative juices flowing! But what happens if you're faced with the dreaded artist's/writer's/creative block?

Change Your Environment

Switch your routine, shake things up! Try new things: if you usually photograph people, why not try photographing buckets? If you're used to writing in your bedroom, why not try writing whilst hanging upside down on a set of playground monkey bars? Experiment! Be bold, take risks and remember that it's perfectly normal to be ''wrong'' or make ''mistakes''!

Find Inspiration Elsewhere

Attend a short course or seminar, read science fiction, flick through fashion magazines, listen to fabulous music, mind map, surround yourself with beautiful words, or simply ask your friends and family for ideas!

Exercise, Exercise, Exercise

Go for a walk - it doesn't have to be a marathon (unless, of course, marathons are your thing!), but taking time to breathe in the fresh air and exercise is a sure-fire way to clear your mind, and to get the brain (and thus, your creative juices!) pumping away again.

Take In The World Around You

Wander into the city, visit a new suburb, or even just stake out a new coffee shop. Arm yourself with a sketchbook or a notepad and a digital camera, jot down notes, and people watch - soak it all up like an enormous sponge, and allow yourself to be inspired!

Remove Any Distractions

Facebook? Twitter? I'm looking at you! Disconnect from the internet, and if you live with someone else, ask them for a little bit of personal (and quiet!) alone time - distractions can very quickly interrupt your train of thought, and if you're unfocused, it can only take a few seconds for an amazing idea to suddenly vanish - so remove yourself from any interruptions!

Trust That Your Inspiration Will Return Soon

It will! Relax! Experiencing an artist's block is very common, and absolutely not permanent - try to enjoy the process as a learning experience, and trust that you will produce brilliant things once again soon!
